Electric Field-Responsive Framework Materials from Aromatic Building Blocks

The project aims at developing ferroelectric stimulus-responsive materials for applications in different fields of (nano-) technology, including technically extremely challenging processes, such as mechanical nanoactuators comprising giant and ultrafast switching responses, as well as 2D/3D ultra-high density information storage materials. Several chemically distinct classes of materials will be explored, containing Kuratowski-type subunits,[1,2] as well saddle-shaped and hinge-like aromatics. Research will be carried out by a consortium of two research teams, recognized for their complementary expertise in the fields of solid-state chemistry (Prof. Volkmer)[1–3] and aromatic materials (Prof. Stępień).[4,5] The project is funded under a BEETHOVEN grant, a joint initiative of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the National Science Center of Poland (NCN).

Post-doctoral Position at the University of Wrocław

Up to 36 months, gross salary 120 000 PLN / year. Requirements:

1.       Multistep organic synthesis, including microscale work, and inert-atmosphere procedures.

2.       Design and planning of complex synthetic sequences

3.       Aromatic/functional dye chemistry

4.       Spectroscopic methods, with particular emphasis on NMR spectroscopy

5.       Fluency in English (German/Polish desirable)

6.       Record of providing supervision to graduate/undergraduate students

7.       Knowledge of the current project-related literature
